Date: Saturday, January 15th, 2010
Time: 1:00 pm (weigh-in/registration from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm - come early so you can fix your car if it doesn't pass)
Place: Hoover Gym
Race: Each contestant will compete in 4 races... one in each of the four lanes on our track. The Scout, who owns the car in lane 1, will be the starter for the race.
Prizes:
Trophy for the Den with the best average time for all cars in all of their heats.
1st, 2nd, 3rd place and Honorable Mention ribbons will be
awarded in each of the following categories (Design will be judged by the
Scouts):

• Most Colorful Design
• Most Original Design
• Wackiest Design
• Most Patriotic Design
• Most Gadgets
• Best Environmental Design
• Sleekest Design
• Best Cub Scout Design
• Most Gadgets
Rules:
Scout is the primary designer and builder of the car (except where dangerous tools are used). Parents should advise and assist only.
There is a Car number on the name label of your box. That number must be on your car. Paint it on, use the included stick-on numbers or use decals. The number will be used to identify your car in design judging.
Only official Cub Scout Grand Prix Pinewood Derby wheels and axles are permitted.
Wheel bearings, washers and bushings are prohibited.
The car shall not ride on springs.
The car must meet the following specifications:
• Weight - not over 5 ounces (use weights you can add and remove to
meet weight on the official race scale.)
• Length - maximum 7 inches
• Width - maximum 2¾ inches including the wheels
• Bottom clearance between car body and track must be at least
3/8".
Only dry lubricant is permitted. No graphite is permitted in the school building. All car lubrication must be done outside.
The car must be free-wheeling with no starting devices
Steering wheel, driver and other design additions are permitted as long as these details do not exceed the maximum length, width, clearance and weight specifications.
Each car must pass inspection by the official race committee before it may compete. If, at registration, a car does not pass inspection, the owner will be informed of the reason for failure and will be given time to make the adjustment within the weigh-in/registration period.
A pit area will be provided with tools, glue, tape, etc. to make repairs and adjustments.
